The New Era of PULP FICTION
In the early twenth century a new bread of authors born who provide sci-fi or detective stories printed on a cheap paper is known as pulp fiction. They are called pulp fiction not because of the paper but due to content too.
Just like that kind of novels the term Pulp Fiction become very famous. Its not like that pulp fictions are always about cheap entertainment sometimes they provide nice stories too.
In our country the era of pulp fiction start around late 70s and early 80s and indian pulp fiction gave such great suspense writers like ved prakash sharma surendra mohan pathak their stories have some great detectives some pretty girls and a evil villein, the people who could not afford high priced magazines and novels made the pulp fiction popular but as the type passed the good pulp fiction becomes sleazy and stories are crafted on basis of sex that was the time when pulp fiction lost its root of providing good entertainment and slowly the sex based pulp fiction took the place of suspense and sci-fi.
slowly when television and internet take over the era of pulp fiction come to an end. Than suddenly 4-5 years ago pulp fiction born again and this time it strike the chord right the difference is now its not published in some cheap paper but what made it pulp fiction is the content of these books.
A couple of good writer write sensible books with a story especially chetan bhagat and the biggest reason of his success is he gave good content at a reasonable price so he got great success. As many time i used to say now days our country become a copycat in each and every field whether its movies or music or writing. As he got the highest readership and ample amount of respect and a cult status in india suddenly a new breed of writers born like mushrooms in rainy season and suddenly the market is flooded with college stories or cute love stories or sad love stories. The good thing about chetan he is socially responsible everything he writes have some message and except writing books he write great articles but this is not the case with other writers of such kind i have read almost 15-20 books of such kind by different young authors and mostly after reading few pages i guess the story same old romance of college some comic situation one or two kiss and finally the lead pair make out and in the end in last ten pages they give a message but only a few author waste 10-20 pages on message otherwise they write out and out a story which is a mix of various Hollywood rom coms . you are thinking i started with talking about pulp fictions and now i landed on college romance. no no i am not deviating from my point previously i mentioned rebirth of pulp fiction this kind of new books are the new pulp fiction but not on basis of their paper , paper and printing is extremely good but the content is mere pulp.
They think they are giving best sellers but i have the reason behind it , these kind of books have price varies from 95-150 rs and if you are buying online you get almost 30 percent discount so it means you have to pay about 65-100 for these books . everyone can afford them they buy it read it and forget it not in few months but in few days and most of the authors of such book vanished just after their best sellers as they don't have another story to tell. When chetan have written the cult FIVE POINT SOMEONE just after its success there are lots of books with same theme and the education varies from doctors to management from architectures to degree students. Different characters different environment but same basic story.
These kind of books never comes under serious reading if they cost these books 200 or more than they never become bestsellers they are cheap and they are fun like popcorn flicks that is why they are popular and that is the reason i call these books modern time pulp fiction.
I remember one incident once like every engineer i have dream about cracking the CAT so i went and enrolled in a prestigious MBA coaching institute its another thing i leave it in just 15 days as i realize i am a complete misfit for corporate world but this incident took place on the very first day , we are sitting in classroom and a teacher comes for formal introduction after a short speech and introduction he ask everyone about there hobbies and most of them wanted to give him impression as they are quite serious about MBA and intellectual kind of animal so most of them said reading as their hobby. The teacher said the one who likes to read above mention kind of books please raise your hands and never say again reading is your hobbies as these kind of books never make you a good reader and never contribute developing your personality These pulp fiction writers have nothing to do with creativity the only thing in their mind when they are writing is money and a bubble of fame for few months. . Most of them are just crap have you ever notice this kind of pulp fiction considered as a classic.
i can not find one such kind of book whenever i check international best sellers not only by indian authors but by foreign authors too.
Just like in past when pulp fiction become monotonous and boring i wish this new era of pulp fiction will end soon and we can have some good young authors with some original and interesting writing .

A writer should say to himself, not, How can I get more money?, but How can I reach more readers (without lowering standards)?
